FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
The following is a list of common questions and answers from hosts, guests, neighbors, and community members regarding short-term recreation rentals and how RecDay works.
What is RecDay?
RecDay is an online marketplace and community designed to connect people who have available recreation spaces, equipment, and setups with people who want to use them. Hosts list their spaces at the price point of their choosing, indicating when and how their spaces will be available to guests. Guests browse available spaces and book them seamlessly through the platform. The concept allows people to share and monetize their spaces safely and conveniently.
How does insurance coverage work?
RecDay Host Protection provides a combination of policies and protections for hosts who list their spaces on RecDay. RecDay Host Protection includes both liability coverage (for the rare event that a host is found legally responsible for a guest getting hurt while on their property during a booking), as well as damage protection (for damages that may occur to a host’s space, equipment, or belongings during a RecDay booking). Read more about insurance and coverage here.
Does RecDay charge listing fees?
RecDay does not charge a listing for or a membership fee to either hosts or guests. That means a host can list their space on RecDay at no cost and guests can register an account and browse listings on RecDay without incurring any costs or fees.
RecDay assesses a Platform Fee (a small percentage charged with each transaction). This fee is itemized within the booking and payment process.
How do platform fees work?
RecDay users, both hosts and guests, incur a small fee during the booking process. Guests will see their fee itemized in the booking breakdown section of the booking request before submitting it to the host for review and approval. Fees charged to hosts are automatically deducted from the payout earnings for a booking. These fees help us cover operational costs like insurance, technology, and support.
Can guests book my space any time?
Hosts set their own availability with flexibility to set their space as available or not. When a guest wants to book your space, you (the host) receive a booking request. You can review the potential guest, read reviews about them from other hosts, and message them directly before accepting or denying the request.
How do I create a listing for my recreation space on RecDay?
Creating a listing for your recreation space on RecDay is a seamless process that takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. First, select the "Post a new listing" link in the header or footer. Choose the listing type from the dropdown menu, then use the question fields to enter information about your space. There are five component sections to creating a listing: details, location, pricing, availability, and photos. Keep in mind that the information and photos you input and upload in these sections will appear directly on your listing. Note that you will be able to choose when your space is available (i.e. which days/times) for guests to book once you get to the availability section. Once each step is complete, submit your listing for approval. Each listing is reviewed and approved by our Customer Success team. A member of our team may reach out to help clarify or update information on your listing. You will be notified once your listing is approved and live on the RecDay website.
How do I set the pricing for my space?
There are a number of factors in pricing a space. Some questions to consider: How high-end/premium is your space? How accessible are spaces similar to yours (both commercial and private) in your area? How much area demand is there for the sport or activity for which your space is ideal?
Once you set your pricing, consider that you may need to experiment with different price points to determine what works best and makes the most sense based on your goals over time.
To adjust the hourly rate for your space: Once logged into RecDay, select your listing, then select "edit listing." Select the "pricing" tab to edit it.
What type of recreation spaces are suitable for listing on RecDay?
Players and community members are seeking a variety of private recreation spaces, including: golf simulators, sports simulators, indoor/outdoor courts, indoor/outdoor fields, fitness/yoga studio spaces, and more. To be listed on RecDay, a space must be clean, safe, and accessible for recreational activities. If you have questions about your space or need help, contact our Customer Success team at info@recday.com.
Can hosts customize when their space is available for booking?
Yes. As part of creating a listing, hosts are asked to specify their availability, including the dates and times you are available and not available. Once the space is listed, hosts can edit their availability by accessing their listing from their profile, clicking "edit listing," then updating availability under the Availability tab. Blocked days/times cannot be booked by a guest, keeping rentals convenient and easy to manage.
What's the difference between a default schedule and an availability exception and how should hosts use them?
When a host sets their availability for their listing or edits their availability into the future, they have two scheduling options: to set a default schedule and to set an availability exception. Editing your default schedule makes it easy to open or block off the same days and/or times consistently. For example, if you only want to make your space available on Tuesdays and Thursdays after noon, you would set your default schedule accordingly.
Setting an exception allows you to easily make a temporary change to your usual schedule. For example, you might be out of town and want to set an exception to block off the coming week's Tuesday/Thursday afternoon availability. Alternatively, you might be open to guests on Friday and Saturday, and want to open up your space in the week ahead.
Hosts can quickly and easily edit their default schedule or exceptions at any time by opening their listing and choosing "edit listing," then selecting the "Availability" tab.
How does RecDay verify users?
While an identification process cannot be entirely foolproof, our aim is to ensure that users are who they say they are. We take steps to help everyone feel confident that both guests and hosts on RecDay are genuine. User verification involves a series of steps at the time of account creation that confirm personal information, such as legal name, address, phone number, and other contact details.
Can hosts and guests communicate directly to clarify details about a space before booking?
Yes. When a potential guest submits their information through the "book" button on a listing, a request to book the space is sent to the host. This appears in the activity feed between the listing's host and the guest who has requested to book. Guests can send a message to the host by typing it into the "Send a message to..." box at the bottom of the screen and selecting "send."
A host with an unread message with see a red dot on the "inbox" button near their profile image at the top of their screen when they log into RecDay. From the inbox, they can select the conversation and respond directly to the guest.
How does the review process work?
Both the host and the guest will be prompted to leave a review within 48 hours of a completed booking. Hosts and guests have seven days to submit their review. Reviews are only published after both parties have given their review, or after the review period has ended. This increases the odds that the reviews are honest. If only one person submits a review after the review period has ended, only that review will be published. If you have questions about a specific review, please contact support@recday.com.
How does the booking process work?
Potential guests submit a request to book a space from the listing. Hosts receive the request, and can then determine whether to accept the request or reject it. The guest's fee is pre-authorized immediately after the customer makes the booking request and charged once the host accepts the request. If the host does not accept the booking request, the charge hold is removed. Hosts receive their payout within 7-10 business days of a completed booking.
Can hosts choose to accept or reject a booking?
Yes. Host receive bookings through the RecDay platform and can review the details of the booking and the potential guest before accepting the booking request.
Do hosts need to provide bathroom access?
Bathroom access is not required of hosts. Be sure to indicate on your listing whether there is bathroom access on-site so guests can plan accordingly.
How do hosts get paid?
RecDay uses Stripe to quickly and securely process payments for hosts. When hosts create a RecDay listing, they are prompted to create/link a Stripe account. Hosts then receive a weekly direct deposit into their secure Stripe account for all earnings.
